TRAI New Rules for Sim Validity: TRAI announces a new rule for all SIM consumers of different operators to keep their SIM activated for more than 90 days without a recharge. It means that users can recharge with Rs.20 and get an extended validity of up to 30 days more.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced new rules related to sim validity offering a great extent of relief to those mobile users who tend to forget to recharge their secondary sim.
These new guidelines from TRAI allow all SIM card operators like Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL to keep activated without a recharge for a longer duration. These guidelines are designed to help those users with less funds or secondary SIM users, can avoid frequent recharges and reduce their expenses.
What are TRAI’s New Rules For SIM Cards?
Telecom Regulatory & Authority of India announced an Automatic Number Retention Scheme for all telecom operators in India including Airtel, Jio, Vi, and BSNL or others. Under this scheme, users can recharge with Rs.20 to get an extended validity of up to 30 days more to keep their numbers activated.
According to the TRAI rule if you do not use voice, data, SMS, and other services on your sim card for 90 days it may be deactivated if you do not have an active recharge plan. This means your name will be deregistered from your sim card and provide it to another customer.
You can prevent us from this by doing a recharge of Rs.20 or keeping your minimum balance up to Rs.20 on your prepaid number. For example, if you do not use your SIM services for 90 days, Rs.20 will be deducted from your account balance and this will extend your SIM validity up to 30 days more.
This new rule from TRAI benefited to those users who may get annoyed or tend to forget to recharge their secondary and face challenges while recharging their secondary sim due to sufficient funds can get significant relief. This new rule from TRAI aims to reduce frequent recharges.
Important Note About New TRAI Rule
After the 30-day extension period, users have to recharge with Rs.20 again or are required to maintain Rs.20 in their account every month which will be deducted from your account. This cycle will repeat until you do not have enough prepaid balance. If you do not have enough balance, you will be given a 15-day grace period to top your balance. Remember if you fail to do a recharge your telecom operator will deactivate your sim card.
However, it is worth noting that it is not a new rule from TRAI, this rule was originally launched in March 2013. But none of the telecom operators were following the rules, forcing users to keep an active base plan for the sim to stay active. But this time, TRAI will strictly enforce the rule for all telecom companies.
Rs.20 Top-Up Benefits:
With Rs.20 top-up, it can extend the SIM validity of up to 30 days, and prevent SIMs from deactivating and allot to another customer. Additionally, it offers Talktime of Rs.14.95 up to 30 days extended validity for all sim users.
